But just a few hours later, the U.S. attorney's office in the Eastern District of Virginia said it had started a criminal investigation into the team.

It claimed to have proof the team underreported ticket income, withheld fan security deposits, and more. Commanders deny claims.

Forbes assessed the Commanders at $5.6 billion this year, making them the sixth-most valuable franchise. The Cowboys are worth $8 billion.
