The California Lottery recognised the October Mega Millions winner at a San Jose 7-Eleven.

The California Lottery announced Monday that a Mega Millions ticket purchased at a San Jose 7-Eleven in October won the $247 million prize.

Edward Lojewski and another Florida resident won $494 million by matching all six numbers on October 14.

Lojewski told lottery officials that he buys lottery tickets at the Kooser Road 7-Eleven after breakfast with friends on Fridays.

He always plays Mega Millions, Powerball, and Super Lotto Plus on weekends with two Quick Picks for each game.

Lojewski said he watched the winning business on TV.

"The first two digits were the same, so I knew I won."

Lojewski, who refused media interviews, told lottery organisers he would invest, care for his family, and help other causes.

The San Jose 7-Eleven on 1413 Kooser Road, where he bought the winning ticket, will receive $1 million.

This Friday, Mega Millions will award $20 million.
